The Cliff Notes on practical Christianity
The Outline Version:
As always, we start with a scriptural a priori assumption.
For Nobility:
& Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
& Rom 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery again to fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba! Father!
& Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God.
& Rom 8:17 And if children, also heirs; truly heirs of God, and joint-heirs of Christ, if indeed we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together.
That was the easy one. The next one takes up a little more space.
For Obligates:
& Mat 25:34 Then the King will say to those on His right, Come, the blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
& Mat 25:35 For I hungered, and you gave Me food to eat; I thirsted, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in;
& Mat 25:36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.
& Mat 25:37 Then the righteous will answer, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, and fed You; or thirsting, and gave You drink?
& Mat 25:38 And when did we see You a stranger, and took You in; or naked, and clothed You?
& Mat 25:39 And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You?
& Mat 25:40 And answering, the King will say to them, Truly I say to you, In so far as you did it to one of these, the least of My brothers, you did it to Me.
How hard is that to remember? However, we have more scripture to add to this to make it scripturaly sound.
& (1Co 13:13 LITV) And now faith, hope, and love, these three things remain; but the greatest of these is love.
Some of you may remember an ensemble cast commercial where one character asks, "What's my motivation?"
First Corithians should be the only motivation.
So we see we have a directive and a motivation to carry out the task.
Next we need some sort of order or priority to all this stuff.
& (Deu 6:4 LITV) Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.
& (Deu 6:5 LITV) And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
& (Mat 19:19 LITV) honor your father and your mother," and, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Ex. 20:12-16; Lev. 19:18; Deut. 5:16-20
So we see it is our responsibility to love G*d first, foremost and with our whole being. And our fellow man as much as we love ourselves.
We could however, boil the whole thing down, just as Jesus the Christ did. If we do that, we have only the following to remember:
Nobles Oblige ~
& (Mat 22:37 LITV) And Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." Deut. 6:5
& (Mat 22:39 LITV) And the second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Lev. 19:18
(Mat 22:40 LITV) On these two commandments all the Law and the Prophets hang.
