Symbolism  - Definitions, Patterns, Types in Scripture -

  • HORSES are always "war horses" and represent reliance on the world's resources rather than on God in spiritual warfare
  • DOGS are unclean animals and refer to the lowest forms of behavior by men
  • WOLVES are false teachers who prey upon the SHEEP
  • SHEEP represent believers who are helpless, prone to wander, and always in need of a shepherd
  • BULLS and RAMS represent masculine strength
  • LIONS and LEOPARDS can represent spiritual enemies in the heavenly places ("...your adversary the devil goes around like a prowling lion..."). On the other hand, Jesus is the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah."
  • GAZELLES, HINDS and DEER represent youthful energy and vitality as seen in the Song of Solomon
  • BEASTS as found in Revelation (and Daniel) are men (world leaders) as seen by God, except that the "four living creatures" in Revelation are mighty angels known as cherubim
  • THE DOVE is a symbol of the Holy Spirit
  • THE EAGLE pictures the serene sovereignty of God. (God took Israel out of Egypt "on eagles' wings.")
  • BIRDS OF PREY represent forces of destruction
  • ANIMAL HORNS picture the strength (power) in a ruler

Notes:
(words in parenthesis) - in scripture verses are inserted by the author in an attempt to illuminate a passage or phrase. This in no way violates rule # 6.
* All - means all.
In Hebrew, Greek and every other language. I looked it up, seriously.
